Winter's charm brings cosy knits, hot chocolate, and the joy of snuggling up indoors. Yet, as the temperature drops, our skin's needs change, requiring a bit of extra attention to maintain its glow. Here are some essential winter skin care tips to keep your skin happy, healthy, and radiant during the colder months.
1. Hydration is Key:
Cold air and indoor heating can lead to dry skin. Combat this by drinking plenty of water throughout the day and using a rich, nourishing moisturiser. Consider switching to a thicker cream to provide your skin with the hydration it craves. My Luxurious Night Cream has the inclusion of hyaluronic acid, which can hold 1000 times its weight in water to assist with rehydrating your skin while you sleep.
2. Gentle Cleansing:
Opt for a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser to prevent over-drying your skin. Cleansing once a day, preferably at night, helps remove impurities while allowing your skin to retain its natural oils. My Creamy Face Wash is specially formulated to be non-drying in order to avoid stripping the skin of its natural oils.
3. Exfoliate with Care:
Exfoliation is important, but during winter, switch to a mild exfoliator to avoid stripping your skin. This will help remove dry skin cells and allow your moisturiser to penetrate better. Try the Creamy Face Scrub twice a week to give your skin a radiant glow.
4. Lock in Moisture:
After cleansing, apply your moisturiser while your skin is still slightly damp. This helps lock in moisture, creating a protective barrier against the cold and dry air. I create three different day creams, my Original Face Cream, Face Cream with Green Coffee Bean oil and the Salon Range Face Cream with Sandalwood & Chamomile. Each are wonderfully moisturising and can be used daily.
5. Soothe Dry Lips:
Cold winds can lead to chapped lips. Keep them soft and supple by using a natural lip balm. My lip balms are enriched with beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil and come in a range of 8 different natural flavours. You're sure to find one to match your tastes.
6. Warm Showers, Not Hot:
As tempting as a hot shower may be, it can strip your skin of its natural oils. Opt for warm showers instead and follow up with lotion immediately after. My Soothe & Protect Body Lotion is a great choice for dry skin, plus it is fragrance free, allowing you to choose essential oils, or perfumes which will not clash with one another.
7. Protect Your Hands:
Your hands are particularly susceptible to dryness in the winter. Apply a nourishing hand cream regularly. Lemon Myrtle Hand Cream creates a silky barrier and has a refreshing and uplifting scent.
8. Humidify Indoors:
Indoor heating can dry out the air, affecting your skin's hydration levels. Consider using a humidifier to add moisture back into the air and prevent your skin from becoming too dry.
9. Incorporate Essential Oils:
Consider adding essential oils to your routine. To combat illness and low immunity, essential oils can be a fabulous way to encourage wellness. I have created an Immunity Blend over the winter with lemon, ginger, cinnamon, eucalyptus and frankincense essential oils to help keep the sniffles at bay.
10. Stay Hydrated from Within:
Don't forget to hydrate your skin from the inside out. Consume foods rich in water content, such as fruits and vegetables, and include omega-3 fatty acids in your diet for skin nourishment.
By adjusting your skin care routine to cater to winter's demands, you can ensure that your skin remains supple, soft, and radiant even in the chilliest days. Embrace the opportunity to pamper yourself with luxurious self-care rituals and let your skin glow with the beauty of the season.
