As the leaves change colour and the air cools, it's time to shift your skin care routine to adapt to the autumn season. Just like you switch up your wardrobe, your skin care regimen should also adjust to the changing weather.
Here are some essential skin care tips to maintain your skin's health and radiance during autumn:
1. Hydration is Key: As the air becomes drier, it's important to maintain hydration. Use a rich moisturiser to provide your skin with the nourishment it needs. Try the Salon Face Cream with Sandalwood and Chamomile for all skin types including sensitive skin.
2. Exfoliate Regularly: Regular exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and promotes a smoother complexion. This is particularly important during the autumn to prevent dry and dull looking skin. My favourite scrubs are the Salon Range Creamy Face Scrub and the Coffee Body Scrub.
3. Lip Care: Protect your lips from becoming chapped by using a hydrating lip balm. Look for ingredients like shea butter and cocoa butter for extra nourishment. MelissaMade lip balms contain both, and come in 8 flavours.
4. Sunscreen is Still a Must: Even though the sun may be less intense, UV rays can still harm your skin. Continue using sunscreen to protect your skin from damage.
5. Antioxidant-Rich Products: Autumn is a great time to incorporate products rich in antioxidants to help protect your skin from environmental stressors. The Green Coffee Bean oil range includes rosehip seed oil, hemp seed oil and the amazing Green Coffee Bean oil which is high in antioxidants including chlorogenic acid and cafeic acid which help protect the skin and essential fatty acids to nourish and moisturise the skin.
6. Repair and Rejuvenate: Consider adding a night cream or serum to your routine to repair and rejuvenate your skin while you sleep. The Luxurious Night Cream with Hyaluronic Acid is my favourite for hydrating thorough the night.
7. Keep Hydrated from Within: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Herbal teas and infused water with fruits and herbs are great options. I love the selection of teas from High Tea with Harriet.
8. Soothe with Masks: Treat your skin to soothing and hydrating face masks. I have a beautiful Hydration Mask that can be used to cool, soothe and nourish your skin.
9. Aromatherapy Scented Skin Care: During the autumn season, using skin care products with essential oils can change your mood while hydrating your skin. Choose from Sensual, Invigorating and Relaxing body lotions or Limited release Body Butters.
10. Don't Forget Your Eyes: The delicate skin around your eyes can become drier too. Use an eye cream to keep the area moisturised and prevent fine lines. There are two to choose from in my face care ranges. Salon Range Eye Cream with Sandalwood and Chamomile and Eye Cream with Green Coffee Bean oil. Both have the inclusion of aloe vera to soothe the skin and reduce puffiness.
11. Protect Your Hands: Your hands can also become dry and rough. Use a nourishing hand cream and consider wearing gloves when working and cleaning. The Lemon Myrtle Hand Cream is delightfully scented and feels soft and silky smooth on your skin.
12. Autumn Hair Care: Pay attention to your hair as well. Cooler weather can lead to dryness, so use a hydrating hair mask and avoid hot water when washing your hair.
13. Treat Yourself to Relaxation: As the pace of life may slow down during autumn, take this opportunity to indulge in relaxing self-care routines, like warm baths and gentle massages. If you'd like an indulgent experience, you can come to see me in the MelissaMade cottage in Warnbro for a Facial, Reiki session or a combined Facial and Reiki session. I also run Sound Sessions with Crystal Singing Bowls fortnightly for you to relax and rejuvenate your energy.
14. Transition Your Makeup: Swap out your summer makeup for autumn shades and more hydrating products to complement the season's colours and prevent dryness.
15. Calm Mind, Calm Skin: Stress can affect your skin's health. Engage in activities that help you relax, such as meditation, yoga, or leisurely walks in nature. My favourite place to walk is along the beach, even in the cooler and windier weather.
16. Autumn Foods for Skin Health: Incorporate seasonal foods like sweet potatoes, apples, and leafy greens into your diet. These foods are rich in vitamins and antioxidants that promote skin health. Autumn salads can also be taken up a notch with seasonal pomegranates and figs. Mix green leaves, such as rocket, spinach or kale, with pomegranate or sliced figs; add some goat’s cheese and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and you have yourself an elegant, yet simple, autumn salad.
17. Adjust Your Cleansing Routine: If your skin tends to get oilier in the summer, you might find that it becomes drier in the autumn. Use a gentle cleanser to avoid over-stripping your skin. The Salon Range Creamy Face Wash has been created to be gentle and is or all skin types so can be used effectively all year long.
By following these autumn skin care tips, you can transition gracefully into the new season with skin that feels nourished, refreshed, and ready to embrace the beauty of the season.
